I'm a graduate of Dow Medical College class of 2011. During my time at DMC, I was an ordinary student with average results. After graduating, I got married and moved to Sweden with my husband. Meanwhile, my class-mates started their house job. I, having a love for Civil hospital Karachi and a passion to begin with house job, was a little depressed. Added to that the fact that we usually picture ourselves as having done post-graduation within 5 years of graduating. And since this was not going to be the case with me, I was quite worried of the invisible 'competition' that we normally feel to have with our friends and class-mates.
Many people think about the oppurtunity of working abroad, specially when they are coming from one of the best colleges in the country. But I never really thought about it, mostly for financial and family reasons. I couldn't pay for foreign trips and electives. Neither was my friends circle of that sort. So I didn't try to do research projects at all, the only one being the compulsory group research during fourth year.
I would love to share my experience because when I came here, I would spend hours on the internet trying to find some hint or clue, but unfortunately, there wasn't much. Nor did I have any personal contacts with any doctor.
Naturally, the Swedish websites and information system is very good, but that's more true when you know the language. In the English version, there are limits.
Thing is, that we're so used to doing everything the hard way in Pakistan, that when we see a society like this one, we can't really believe it. Yes, things are simple here, there is security, there is human respect, there is lawfulness, honesty, truth added to the latest technology and an acceptability for foreigners. The only people who complain are those who come from European countries with similar circumstances. They keep crying about little things. For us from a developing country, it feels like heaven, it feels like a true Islamic state.
