I've been following SYLF (young doctors association) on facebook for many years. Recently I sent them a message about AT and got a very nice response but that also said that I need to be a member in order to get infividual support. I am unsure what sort of support it will provide me, but I have finally taken the initiative to be a member of Läkarförbundet and SYLF. Until now I have received their weekly paper Läkartidningen. I came to know that there is a kind of trial?(carens) period of six months before I am entitled to individual guidance. I was also advised to contact local office in my city. I haven't done that yet. I will keep updating about if and how it helped me or what role it played. Initial contact gives the impression of positive energy, like someone accepts us when employers seem so distant and unapproachable.
Update: after being their member for a while I understood that they could not give personalised support to me in recruitment process, if the AT hospital is marked by them as having "schysst rekrytering" then that's the end of it. In many places a SYLF representative might be present during interview. All this to say, there was no particular advantage for me and I left it.
Then during AT, If the SYLF representative came to speak to all AT doctors, they would not discriminate between those who were members or not.
In a way the entire thing seemed more beneficial for people who held roles in SYLF as läkarstudent, as underläkare and as AT-läkare, as they probably write it as part of their portfolio later on. What läkarförbundet does for more senior doctors, I know not. I do appreciate AT-rankning and Läkartidningen though, but they weren't enough reason for me to continue being member.
