my question

Before moving to Sweden, it was very important for me to know if I had all the necessary documents etc. in hand and that I didn't need anything more. Taking all my documents with me was easy, but I still had one question, that being about house-job. Do I need to have done it before moving here? And the answer is NO . You can apply for verification of degree and for the test and then for the house job (AT) here just with your diploma (degree). People who have little or no experience, those who have just graduated and also those who are not specialists yet, no matter how long they have worked.. they all need to pass the medical test first. They are treated alike at first, though doing the house job or working in the field might help you during the test and while working here. Because there is no replacement of practical knowledge. People who have done specialization are not supposed to take the test. They will work for a period of 6 months during which they are observed at eve...

Swedish B

( Step-2: Show certified knowledge of the Swedish language ) There are few ways to reach level Svenska B, these ways are listed by socialstyrelsen on the website . The commonest is to start with SFI (Swedish for Immigrants) at Komvux. You have to start at level C and be clear with level D. For me, this took 3 months. Then I had two options: Either to do SAS (Swedish as a second language) and then swedish A and B at komvux. OR, to do swedish A and B + medical swedish at Folk universitet within 6 months. I chose the second option and that's what's commonest for doctors to do.

the goal - the job

My goal is to get a job as AT läkare here. It's like when we are House officers in Pakistan, right after graduation. To apply for that, I need two documents to attach to my application: 1. The decision (beslut) from socialstyrelsen. This means that my degree is fine. 2. The result of medical test, after which I can say that I have knowledge equivalent to the Swedish läkarexamen. "1" ( Step 1. Applying for an assessment of foreign training ) can be done as soon as I have my personnummer from skatteverket. That is possible within a month of arriving in Sweden. I just need to download the application form and send it with my personbevis and certified copy of the my medicine degree (diplom). Personbevis and certification both can be done by skatteverket easily. It is to be sent to the address given on the application form. The reply comes after 4 to 6 weeks. It includes a two-page decision and an information booklet about the medical test. "2" ( Step 3a. Pa...

THE information

https://legitimation.socialstyrelsen.se/en/licence-application/outside-eu-eea/doctor-of-medicine-educated-outside-eu-eea/ This is THE only most important link to be followed. Read it carefully and stick to it. Yes, it's as simple as it seems! Socialstyrelsen is who you're supposed to contact for verification of degree and so job as a doctor. But if you want to work while you're studying Swedish or while preparing for the medical test, then it's arbetsformedlingen that might help. Also, it's arbetsformedlingen and försäkringskassan who give money if you are not working but studying.

First things first

I'm a graduate of Dow Medical College class of 2011. During my time at DMC, I was an ordinary student with average results. After graduating, I got married and moved to Sweden with my husband. Meanwhile, my class-mates started their house job. I, having a love for Civil hospital Karachi and a passion to begin with house job, was a little depressed. Added to that the fact that we usually picture ourselves as having done post-graduation within 5 years of graduating. And since this was not going to be the case with me, I was quite worried of the invisible 'competition' that we normally feel to have with our friends and class-mates. Many people think about the oppurtunity of working abroad, specially when they are coming from one of the best colleges in the country. But I never really thought about it, mostly for financial and family reasons. I couldn't pay for foreign trips and electives. Neither was my friends circle of that sort. So I didn't try to do research p...
